In February 2019, the Indian cricket team captain invested in Galactus Funware Technology Pvt Ltd, a Bangalore-headquartered company that owns the online gaming platform Mobile Premier League (MPL). However, later this investment by him went into controversy. Conflicts of interest arose against Kohli as the company later became the official kit sponsor and business partner of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI).
According to a report in Indian Express, Kohli was allotted compulsory convertible debentures in Galactus Funware Technology Pvt Ltd for Rs 33.32 lakh and was named the brand ambassador of MPL in January 2020. Galactus is a subsidiary of M-League Pte Ltd, which is registered in Singapore.
Invested Rs 19.30 crore in Universal Sportsbiz
Universal Sportsbiz (USPL) is also included in Kohli’s investment portfolio. It is a fashion startup in which he invested Rs 19.30 crore in October 2020. According to a corporate ministry filing, USPL allotted 4282 shares to two investors at a nominal value of Rs 10 and a premium of Rs 47,561.
