About The Book

This book is raw, powerful, and deeply moving Sonia takes you on an emotional journey through her marriage, from the excitement and hope at the beginning to the slow, painful realisation that things were not as they seemed.

What makes this book so impactful is how honest and unfiltered it is. You truly feel every emotion she went through.

As an Indian woman, much of her story incredibly relatable. The cultural pressures, especially within the South Asian community where divorce is often discouraged, are portrayed so accurately. That feeling of having to “keep the peace” while silently struggling is something many will recognise.

One of the most powerful themes throughout the book is how she felt like she was “disturbing people’s sleep” by speaking her truth and choosing herself. That really stayed with me.

Her reflections on motherhood are especially touching. Her two boys come through as her strength and her reason to keep going, even in her darkest moments.

The scenes where she describes sitting in her car, using it as a safe space to cry, scream, and even attend court hearings, are incredibly real and relatable.

The later chapters, where she shares the physical toll of everything she endured, are heartbreaking. Her experience of ending up on life support and the impact this had on her children is something that will stay with me for a long time The book ends beautifully with a heartfelt letter to her boys. It also includes a Guided Reflections section with thought-provoking questions such as “What has my body been trying to tell me?” and “What does peace actually mean to me?” which really encourage you to pause and reflect on your own life.

This is more than just a story. It’s a voice for so many women who feel unheard. A brave, honest, and important read.
