The story of Goddess Lakshmi is very popular among Hindus regarding Diwali. Once, on the new moon of Kartik month, Lakshmiji went on a tour, but there was darkness all around the world. When she forgot her way, she decided that she would spend the night in the land of death and return to Baikunthdham after sunrise, but she found that everyone was sleeping in their homes with the door closed. But in this darkness, he saw a door open, in which the flame of a lamp was twinkling.
She walked towards the light where she saw an old woman spinning a spinning wheel. Taking permission for the night’s rest, she stayed in the same hut. Giving bed etc. to the old mother Lakshmidevi got back to work. The old man got his eyes while running the spinning wheel, when he woke up the next morning he found that the guest had left, but a magnificent palace had stood in the place of the hut, money and grains, gems, and jewelry was scattered everywhere. Since then the practice of lighting a lamp on the night of Kartik Amavasya is going on, people open the door and wait for the arrival of Lakshmidevi.
