Goodyear India Partners With Spefl-Sc And Navjyoti India Foundation To Support A Safer And Greener Faridabad

  • Supports 330 girls with safety training and 3 police stations with rainwater harvesting units

Faridabad, Haryana, March 23, 2023– Goodyear India partnered with the Sports, Physical Education, Fitness, & Leisure Skills Council (SPEFL-SC) to support women’s safety in Faridabad, Haryana. This aligns with the Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 5 of the 17 Global Goals committed by the United Nations (UN) General Assembly in 2015.

Goodyear, as always, is committed to ethical and sustainable practices to protect the planet and people; give back to the community; provide a safe, diverse, and healthy workplace; and engage our associates in these efforts.

According to a study conducted by WHO, at least 1 in 3 women have faced violence in their lifetime (WHO Report, 2021). In India as well, Violence Against Women (VAW) is a cause of grave concern.

In line with national steps to tackle VAW, the Haryana government and the police department are taking tremendous efforts to ensure the safety of women and girls in the state. To complement the same, Goodyear India Limited and SPEFL-SC have entered into a partnership to conduct training for 330 girls between the ages of 14 to 20 from various institutions in Faridabad District on self-defense. These training sessions would be marked by the presence of Durga Shakti (Haryana Woman Police) in every training batch. The objective is to enable female students to protect themselves from antisocial elements in society. Further, under the initiative, a Safety Awareness Van will also be donated to Faridabad Police to be driven around educational institutions in Faridabad. The objective is to generate awareness amongst the general public regarding the VAW and the need to unite for the same.

The Inauguration Ceremony for the same was hosted at Ballabhgarh. As it was hosted on World Water Day, 22nd March, the team also took the opportunity to inaugurate the rainwater harvesting units being constructed by Navjyoti India Foundation, supported by Goodyear India Limited, in three police stations in Faridabad.

At the launch event of these two programs, The Deputy Commissioner of Police/ Headquarters, Mr. Nitish Aggarwal (IPS) also shared his thoughts. “Thanks to Goodyear India Limited, SPEFL, and Navjyoti India Foundation- we have been able to create two assets to serve society. The safety awareness van will help us familiarize the general public with VAW and the legal tools we have to tackle it. Similarly, the rainwater harvesting unit will help conserve water to tackle water scarcity. On behalf of Faridabad Police and under the guidance of the honorable Commissioner, we support these two initiatives towards creating a Safer and Greener Faridabad”.

Mr. Sandeep Mahajan – Chairman and Managing Director of Goodyear said “As a responsible corporate entity, Goodyear India is working to create well-being among the community through our efforts at the ground level. In the past as well, Goodyear India Limited has invested in projects on environment, education, and safety. In alignment with the same, we have launched the Safer Faridabad and Catch the Rain Program to work towards a Safer and Greener Faridabad”.

Mr.Tahsin Zahid (CEO) of SPEFL-SC shared the importance of self-defense in India- “ We are grateful for the support being provided by Goodyear India Limited and the police department in executing our efforts in training girls in self-defense and spreading awareness on the importance of women’s safety.”

Ms. Chandni Bedi, Director – of Rural Management and Training Institute, Navjyoti India Foundation said “We are proud to be associated with the initiative under the guidance of Goodyear India Limited. The project is in alignment with the National Water Mission by the Ministry of Jal Shakti. We have used a simple technique designed by S M Sehgal Foundation that captures rainfall and diverts the runoff water to the ground through a simple filtration and well system. It is extremely convenient to maintain these rainwater harvesting units and our experience in the past with creating such systems have demonstrated that they can easily be sustained for a decade or more.”
